How To Prepare Clothes For Sale And Give Them A Second Life?

Giving a second life to objects, clothes, and furniture is very close to me. I buy a lot of things second-hand, but I also get rid of what I no longer need. You often ask me how I manage to sell clothes.

That is why I decided to prepare a post in which I will describe how I do it and what, in my opinion, guarantees successful sales. It will be the experience of the seller and the buyer.

How To Prepare Clothes For Sale?

It’s not easy to sell clothes it’s getting harder and harder. There are plenty of clothes. In the maze of ads, it’s hard to find one with good quality items and at least half the price of new clothing.

When I was looking for a jacket for my son, in 90% of the ads I was interested in, the description was: “There is a hole/spot, but practically invisible“, and the price was PLN 30.

Remember that even when buying used clothes, we want them to be of good quality. What I noticed is also the fact that clothes that were more expensive at the time of purchase are easier to sell later.

Therefore, my first appeal is to sell undamaged clothes, and if it has any defects, e.g. a hole or a stain, then solve the problem on your own or let the price be low enough to make it worthwhile for the buyer to take the risk of repair.

1. Set Yourself In The Shoes Of A Customer

Is the item of such quality that you would buy it used yourself? Would we buy this garment at that price, plus shipping and buyer protection? Isn’t the price that the buyer will pay in the end not close to the price of a new garment?

It is also worth seeing at what price similar clothes are sold, reading the advertisements and assessing whether our dress are of better or worse quality.

If you want a quick sale, let it be the lowest price among other ads. Although in the case of clothes, it is not always the lowest price that has an impact on successful sales.

2. Is It Profitable For You To Sell?

It is worth determining how much minimum you want to earn on a given item. For this price, do you have what to pack clothes for shipping, is it worth taking the package to a parcel locker, etc?

If you have a lot of dress that you would value for a few zlotys, maybe it will be more profitable to make a package of clothes, e.g. for children in a given size

But beware! Each item must be visible in the photo. I don’t think any of us would buy a pig in a poke.

3. Why Is It Worth Washing Clothes For Sale?

Before listing items for sale, be sure to inspect them thoroughly and wash them. You will get rid of stains, and dirt and you will be sure that you are displaying clothes exactly as advertised.

If you wash after the sale, but before shipping, there is a risk of accidental dyeing, etc. For your safety, it is better to do this before listing the ad.

4. Iron Clothes Before Taking Photos

The next step is to iron the clothes. The photos below show the difference between ironed and unironed. Which photo will catch your attention?

Which photo gives the impression that the clothes are in better condition? Among the many advertisements, the presentation of clothes is of great importance. We have a few seconds to attract the attention of a potential recipient.

Ironed clothes look better, regardless of whether it’s a presentation in a photo for an announcement or every day on us.

The equipment that I have recommended to you for ironing for years is the Braun CareStyle 7 Pro steam generator iron. The feature I love about this steam generator is the vertical ironing.

Clothes can be refreshed on the hanger without removing the ironing board. It is very convenient in the case of dresses, but also curtains or curtains.

When you prepare clothes for sale, it speeds up the whole process a lot – you iron them on a hanger and then take a picture.

How To Take Pictures Of Clothes To Sell Effectively?

If the clothes are ironed, it’s time for photos! It is very important! Therefore, below you will find a short guide to taking photos:

. Nice picture of clothes for sale: lying or hanging on a hanger? – if you have the opportunity, take a picture of the clothes on the hanger. There are a lot of photos of clothes laid out flat. Clothes look better on the hanger, and it will also be your distinguishing feature;

Take a photo on a smooth background – e.g. on a wall;

. Choose a background that contrasts with the clothes – see the photo of a white dress on a light and dark wall. It’s the same outfit, but it looks better in contrast. Of course, if you don’t have a dark wall or a light, a plain background will be fine. Rather, avoid colored walls, because they can distort the color of the clothes in the picture. You can also see it above where the dress is on the floor;

. Take a photo in daylight, preferably on a sunny day – below is the same shot taken during the day and under artificial light. Bulb light can cause additional shadows or color distortion;

. take a few photos for the announcement – e.g. OLX now has a function that when you add one photo, it cannot be enlarged and viewed in its entirety. I bounced off a few of these ads myself, and later it turned out that my ads had the same problem. Front and back photos are a minimum. It’s also nice to take a shot at a detail or label because many people are interested in the composition of the dresses.
